Governor Roy Cooper has declared January 2024 is National Radon Action Month. Radon is the leading cause of lung cancer among nonsmokers, and the second leading causer of lung cancer. You can view the Governor’s proclamation online.

Radon is a colorless and odorless gas. The only way to determine if your home has elevated levels of radon is through testing. No matter where you live in the state, you have the potential for elevated radon levels in your home. During the month of January a limited number of free test kits are available through the NC Radon Program. Visit the North Carolina Radon Program and scroll down to the section titled “Free Radon Test Kit”.
