Hurricane Preparedness — Are You Ready?

— Written By

Hurricane Florence is churning in the Atlantic and headed to North Carolina later this week. Whether you are are on the coast or inland, you should prepare now. The Federal Emergency Management Agency stresses the importance of:

  • knowing your risks
  • staying informed
  • knowing your evacuation routes

The time to prepare is now. For information visit NC Cooperative Extension’s Disaster Information Center and review FEMA’s How to Prepare for a Hurricane. Florence’s rains may also bring a significant flooding to the state, so it is important to prepare. FEMA’s How to Prepare for a Flood guide can also help you be prepared for issues associated with flooding.

In addition to preparing for potential weather impacts, it is also important that you and your family have a communication plan. This will help you share information with those out of town, as well as with immediate family members should you become separated.
