September Is National Preparedness Month

September is National Preparedness Month. This year, FEMA's Ready Campaign is focused on preparing older adults for disasters. Older adults are disproportionately impacted by disasters and they face greater risks as they are often lower income, live alone, or reside in rural areas. To help prepare your community and the older population, planning is essential. Ready.gov shares specific ways to plan for communication, evacuation, transportation, and everyday needs of older adults during disasters in flyers in both English and Spanish. Ready.gov also has a Prepare for Emergencies Now: Information for Older Americans flyer to assist older adults in their preparation. The key to helping all people, including older adults, navigate a disaster event is to begin planning now, before disaster strikes.
